1939 Iron Cross Second Class
Clasp Stick Pin….WW1 iron cross topped with 1939 clasp . This form of miniature commemorates the reissue of the Iron Cross for a recipient who had also earned the decoration in the First World War.The 1939 clasp itself was instituted to be worn on the ribbon of a 1914 Iron Cross by veterans who received the renewed award during the Second World War, and jewelers produced small stick-pin and tie-pin versions of this device for civilian wear. The 1939 Clasp to the Iron Cross was instituted by Hitler at the outbreak of the Second World War to recognise veterans who had already earned the Iron Cross of 1914 and now qualified for a renewed award under the new Wehrmacht honours system, worn on the original ribbon to signify a second earning of the decoration. Such miniature stick-pins were privately purchased by veterans or their families for wear on civilian dress, allowing recipients to display this distinction away from uniform. They reflect the continuity Nazi-era propaganda sought to draw between the soldiers of the First World War and the newly mobilised Wehrmacht.click on pay by credit card to access after pay
