German Hitler Youth Knife – "Transitional" Model (1938) by Anton Wingen Jr. (RZM M7/51/38)
$995.00
This piece is a "Transitional" period variant, featuring rare dual markings on the blade's ricasso.
Stamped with the iconic "Standing Knight" logo belonging to the renowned cutlery firm Anton Wingen's bases in Solingen.
Marked RZM M7/51/38 (M7 = Dagger/Knife sector; 51 = Anton Wingen's specific factory code; 38 = 1938 production year).
The nickel-plated hilt and crossguard show standard, honest age-patina. The black checkered composition grips are tight, secured by original rivets. The inlaid enameled diamond emblem is beautifully preserved with crisp colors and no major cracking & has the movement most collectors look for.
The steel scabbard has lost most of its original black factory paint, but remains surprisingly dent free. The attached leather belt loop (frog) and hilt-retention strap remain intact and pliable, complete with the original functional snap with correct domes. The blade shows heavy sharpening marks, surface scratches, and dark graying throughout. While most collectors often seek mint condition blades, this is not one of them. Because these daggers were issued directly to youth organizations, they were essentially treated as field tools and toys by children. This wear is highly typical of a knife that was carried in the field, thrown against trees, and crudely sharpened by a young teenager in camp rather than a soldier. The markings at the ricasso remain reasonably crisp, deep, and fully legible.Blade fit into scabbard is not as tight as usual probably due to blade wear (scabbard runners are in place)A well used youth dagger yet still sort after due to dual markings from a well known respected maker.
